Rekha and Gowda, a family of three with their 8-year-old daughter, approached us with a clear and heartfelt vision. They weren’t looking for a trend-driven or overly stylized home—instead, their focus was on creating a space that reflects comfort in its truest sense. Every element of the design was guided by their desire for warmth, familiarity, and a deep connection to their roots and values. For them, home meant ease, authenticity, and a lifestyle anchored in what truly matters.

The Journey – “From vision to reality”

With the clients’ vision of comfort and rooted values in mind, we moved into the design phase. The ground floor was designated entirely for parking and a small storage area, keeping the functional needs well accommodated. The real design challenge lay on the first floor, given the compact 1,200 sq.ft. plot and the requirement for a relaxation room alongside the living, kitchen, and dining spaces.

After multiple discussions and iterations, we reimagined the layout by removing a separate dining area and instead opted for an island kitchen with integrated seating for three. This allowed us to retain openness while still meeting all the functional needs.

The second and third floors each house a bedroom, with the master bedroom on the top floor opening up to a private outdoor terrace—perfect for quiet retreat. The design approach throughout is contemporary, expressed through a clean palette of wood and whites that lend warmth and simplicity.

One of the most special features is in the living area, where we created a low floor-sitting zone that also serves as a dining space. This thoughtful touch honored the clients’ wish to stay connected to their cultural roots and traditions of floor seating for meals.

The journey of designing this home was not only creatively fulfilling but also a deeply enriching experience. It reminded us of the beauty of simplicity, and the strength of designing with intention and cultural resonance.
